John A. Coury
Principal, CEO

 

John formed Crestlight in 2017 and is responsible for strategic direction and overseeing operations for the firm.

 

Prior to Crestlight, John worked at The Blackstone Group and was directly responsible for managing 75 assets with a total enterprise value of $5.6 billion overseeing a team of 150 investment professionals at Equity Office Properties (Blackstone portfolio company) and a staff of 3 analysts.  John managed office investments in 10 markets across the United States.

 

Prior to Blackstone, John worked as an Assistant Vice President at Rockwood Capital, a real estate fund with $6.5 billion in assets under management, and was directly responsible for 9 office, retail and multifamily properties with a total enterprise value of $745 million while also providing acquisition support in each market.  

 

Prior to Rockwood Capital, John worked as an Associate Vice President at DTZ Rockwood underwriting 16 separate portfolio transactions totaling 9 million square feet.

 

John received a Bachelors in Business Administration from the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.  After living in New York City for 12 years, John, with his wife and their two children, recently moved to the Detroit area where their families grew up. 

Brian J. McAlpine, CFA
Principal, CIO 

 

Brian is a Principal and Chief Investment Officer at the firm responsible for the management, coordination and execution of Crestlight’s investment activities.

 

Prior to Crestlight, Brian worked as a Director of Investments at ValStone Partners, a private equity real estate fund manager with nearly $1 billion in assets under management.  While at ValStone, Brian led a team responsible for acquiring both debt and equity investments across multiple property sectors and geographies primarily located within the United States.

 

Prior to ValStone Partners, Brian worked as an Assistant Portfolio Manager at The Townsend Group, one of the largest global institutional private equity real estate advisors and multi-manager investment platforms.  At Townsend, Brian was primarily responsible for investment and portfolio management related activities on behalf of the firm’s discretionary special situations accounts which currently total approximately $15 billion.

 

Brian is a Chartered Financial Analyst ("CFA"), a member of the CFA Institute, a member of the Detroit CFA Society, and a member of the Urban Land Institute.  Brian received a BS in Finance with a minor in Economics from the Richard T. Farmer School of Business at Miami University (OH).  Brian and his wife currently live in their hometown outside of Detroit with their two children.

Kelly Lim, CFA
Senior Vice President 

 

Kelly is a Senior Vice President at the firm responsible for leading the asset management and leasing activities within Crestlight’s portfolio and overseeing business plan execution for the properties. 

Prior to Crestlight, Kelly worked at Columbia Property Trust, a publicly traded real estate investment trust with a focus on Class A office assets in prime markets throughout the U.S.  While at Columbia, Kelly managed a portfolio comprising 2.4 million SF with a total enterprise value of $2 billion.

 

Prior to Columbia Property Trust, Kelly worked as a Vice President at Rockwood Capital, a real estate fund with $6.5 billion in assets under management, where he was responsible for 20 office and multifamily properties with a total enterprise value of over $2.5 billion. 

 

Prior to Rockwood Capital, Kelly worked at Clarion Partners with roles in asset management and acquisitions. 

 

Kelly is a CFA charterholder and a member of the CFA Institute and the New York CFA Society.  Kelly received a BA in Economics from the University of Michigan.  Kelly and his wife live in Brooklyn, NY with their two children.

Brad Finkel
Vice President 

 

Brad is a Vice President at the firm primarily responsible for acquisition activities but also assists in asset management functions.
 
Prior to Crestlight, Brad was a Vice President at Triangle Capital Group, a private real estate investment company that purchased over $1 billion of distressed and special situations across all property types throughout the United States.  At Triangle, Brad was responsible for all facets of the acquisition process from sourcing, evaluating, structuring and closing complex transactions. During his tenure, Brad was involved in over $500 million of distressed debt and equity investments across numerous property types throughout the country.  Brad also focused on the creation of new investment theses and worked closely with the Asset Management team, assisting with investments he purchased.
 
Prior to Triangle, Brad worked on the Underwriting and Asset Management teams within the Commercial Real Estate Lending arm of The Bancorp, a national and publicly traded commercial bank.  At Bancorp, Brad underwrote opportunities for the fixed and floating rate programs across multiple property types throughout the United States.  Brad also worked directly under the Head of Asset Management to manage and securitize Bancorp’s first floating rate CLO of over $250 million.
 
Brad received a BA in Economics from the University of Michigan.  Brad and his fiancé recently moved to Detroit after six years in New York City.  Brad’s extended family resides in the Northwest suburbs of Detroit.

Nathalie Herman
Associate

 

Nathalie is an Associate at the firm responsible for acquisition and asset management activities.
 
Prior to joining Crestlight, Nathalie was an Associate on the Investment Sales team at Eastdil Secured, a commercial real estate investment bank and advisory services firm. While at Eastdil, Nathalie was responsible for underwriting and analysis as well as assisting on the sales and marketing processes with material preparation, investor outreach and tours, and due diligence coordination. Nathalie primarily focused on office transactions in the Midwest region, and during her tenure at Eastdil, she underwrote over 100 equity transactions (traded and non-traded) across all commercial asset classes totaling over 45 million square feet and valued in excess of $12 billion.
Nathalie received her BS in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and her MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.  Nathalie currently lives in Chicago with her fiancé.

Daniel J. Weiner
Analyst

 

Daniel is an Analyst at the firm responsible for acquisition and asset management activities.

 

Prior to joining Crestlight, Daniel was an Analyst at J.P. Morgan on their Real Estate Americas platform, which develops and owns over $60 billion worth of real estate across the U.S. spanning all asset types and risk profiles.  During his time at J.P. Morgan, Daniel was responsible for helping manage over $2 billion worth of assets throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, as well as analyzing acquisition opportunities. 

 

Daniel received his Bachelors in Business Administration from the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.  While at Michigan, he was deeply involved with the Michigan Real Estate Club, Real Estate Fund, and Alternative Investments Club.  Daniel grew up in San Diego, CA and recently moved to Detroit after living in New York City for two years.
